ORDE & CHAOS
Coincidental Stories
For: Dylan
When I received the folder and started researching who I wanted to paint a piece of the magic circle for, my student Dylan quickly came to me. Dylan attends the Waldorf school in Haarlem, and I'm currently mentoring him.
When I told him about the Magic Circle, he was immediately enthusiastic and offered ideas. For example, the chosen piece had to be a landscape where freedom reigns, and the spiral shape was also important. I decided to adjust the assignment slightly and suggested we paint together.
During this fun, creative activity, we talked about his "journey" here on earth. As a 15-year-old teenager, he's developing rapidly. Dylan is a unique presence, smart, good at arts subjects like drama and music, sensitive, multifaceted, but at times also calm, creative, and very warm-hearted. On the other hand, he sometimes goes too far. I try to observe these situations. He desperately wants to fit in, and his humor sometimes goes too far. He sometimes crosses the teacher's line, and even gets involved in "incidents" outside the classroom. Something with deodorant and a lighter, or something with horses and a snowball.
The question in his dynamic personal development (the spiral shape in the painting) is: what do you bring here, Dylan? Who do you want to be? And how can you expand the leadership qualities you demonstrate in theater and apply them elsewhere? How can you experience that freedom (nature in the painting) at more points in your life and embrace your insecurities, only to let them go again? Because man, what a sweet and loving child we have here in our midst. A boy in the making, a man in development. Enjoy who you are, Dylan. That's my message to you. Explore everything, but hold on to the good. The bee (in the painting) visits beautiful flowers, leaves something behind, and brings back new life. Who do you want to be with? What do you bring to Dylan, and what joyful moments and positive qualities will you bring with you?

For: Lies
To you mom, thank you for giving me life, music, wisdom and love.
With this Magic Circle, I thought of you, so I chose number 9, your lucky number. And when I see a robin, I think of you. You could sing beautifully... probably whistle too. I love you endlessly, never endingly. You were so colorful, wise, and magnificent; one day I'll be just like you.
The tree grows towards the sky
And don't think about the how.
Likewise, growth as a human being
sometimes violent, sometimes intense.
but above all, delightfully nice
to be human by chance.

For: Yara
I created my piece for my sister, Yara. We've had a very special and deep bond our whole lives. We share so much and have wonderful memories together, from beautiful trips and funny experiences to everyday things and insightful conversations. From the very first moment we were together, Yara gave me a heartwarming welcome, as our parents later told us. When Yara returned from her grandparents' home, where I was being cared for when I was born, she curiously crawled onto the bed with me and Mom and Dad. And then said, "Ewaaa" with such enthusiasm in her voice. This remains such a warm memory for me because when I see Yara again after a long absence, I greet her with so much love and enthusiasm. "Yaraaaa!" I exclaim as we hug. And then we're so happy to be together again. In the piece I created for her, you see me (left) and Yara (right) depicted as babies, connected in the circle and path of life. I appreciate you so much, dear Yara, for who you are as a person. With all the unique, valuable, special, and beautiful qualities that are part of you and make you you. ♥️

Pilgrimage
Besides walking the path of life together every day, we've also begun to do so literally, by walking the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela (in stages) from home. So far, we've reached Bourges.
This collage is an ode to the simple life we create together, where taking a few steps every day is the ultimate goal.
In the meantime, you will encounter other people and villages, towns and landscapes and experience big and small things while you are busy looking for food and places to sleep.

For what was and what is to come.
It doesn't have to be finished before it's beautiful
My sister is currently traveling in Asia for six months, so I miss her a bit. That's why I created this memory for her, featuring a kind of swirling wave. I always loved surfing with her. She even made a similar painting using this technique once. How fitting :)

For what was and what is to come.
I made this painting for Tijn and Olivier. They're my good friends and also kind of like my big brothers. I always go on summer vacation with them in our caravan to France and Spain. I have very fond memories of that.

For: Our daughter
Your memory: When I received the folder, I immediately thought of our daughter. I chose number 30, because she turned 30 on February 1, 2025. Our love for our daughter was so great at her birth. That's why I drew 30 hearts for her. And we wish her many more wonderful years. Looking back on the past 30 years, she has grown into a woman who knows what she wants, including for her future. We gave her LOVE, SECURITY, SUPPORT, GROWTH, AND TRUST. We are proud that she has now found her place in work. Follow your dreams; they know the way! Sweetheart, stay the way you are. Love, Mom and Dad xxx
